About Us
ReFind Originals' creator, Anita Hopper, combines her love of sewing with her interest in recycling by repurposing outdated leather apparel and upholstery,to make environmentally friendly handbags and accessories. She fashions one-of-a-kind, buttery-soft handbags and backpacks out of discarded leather and other fabrics, giving new life to old garments. ReFind Originals has recently expanded the line with the addition of new handmade items, such as headbands, earrings, and brooches, all made from leather scraps collected and saved from the landfill after making the handbags. Expanding the line has also meant adding part time helpers and makers. We are inspired to see what we can create next out of something that someone else no longer has a use for. We work together in the ReFind Originals studio in Indianapolis, IN to carefully hand make each item. Each product is completely unique. The pockets and details on each bag are incorporated from the original garment in the design of the bag. There may (and probably will) be irregularities in the leather due to its second hand nature, but we believe that this only enhances the character of each one. You will find a wide variety of colors in our bags and accessories but we cannot guarantee specific colors due to the fact that we use what we find. We do not dye our leather so once a leather is gone it's gone.
Philosophy
ReFind Originals is committed to using recycled materials in the creation of every handbag or accessory that bears our name. We're concerned about the disposable mentality that has destroyed so much of the environment and see our work as a small way to make a difference in the world by reducing waste, reusing beautiful materials that would otherwise be discarded, and recycling them into refined and unique handbags and accessories. We also celebrate beauty and enjoy creating fun, one-of-a-kind works of art that women can carry or wear. Owning a ReFind Originals bag or accessory is a practical and refined way to demonstrate that greener choices in our everyday lives can be beautiful!
